Wilbur is our pet turkey. He may not be long for this world. He keeps drowning himself in the lawn sprinkler. See why they call them bronze turkeys? He has a pretty bronze color.
Wilbur the Turkey
Wilbur is our bronze heritage turkey. He enjoys hanging out with the dogs, chickens and us. He monitors my building progress as I put the finishing touches on a new chicken coop. Wilbur is 3 months old and weighs about 30 pounds!

Acorn - Fall is Here!
I brought an Acorn back and left it on the counter. A little sunlight. A little time. And it cracked open as seen above. I feel like a 3rd grader with a science experiment. Good stuff. On the plus side, a macro shot of an acorn is probably more classy than my previous inflatable turkey pictures. Ha!

Tōdai-ji Nandaimon (東大寺 南大門, Nara)
Tōdai-ji (東大寺 Tōdai-ji, meaning the Eastern Great Temple), is a Buddhist temple complex located in the city of Nara, Japan. Its Great Buddha Hall (大仏殿 Daibutsuden), reputedly the largest wooden building in the world, houses a colossal bronze statue of the Buddha Vairocana, known in Japanese simply as the Daibutsu (大仏) The temple also serves as the Japanese headquarters of the Kegon school of Buddhism. The temple is a listed UNESCO World Heritage site as "Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara," together with seven other sites including temples, shrines and places in the city of Nara. Sika deer, regarded as messengers of the gods in the Shinto religion, roam the grounds freely.(From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Tigone and Bessie
Bessie was rescued from a fenced parking lot near downtown San Antonio. She was sick, dirty, dehydrated and pregnant. After an emergency spay and a little TLC, she cleaned up nicely. She is currently living a life of luxury in our small pack.

Adam's stairs
I hate that this came out blurry. The stairs are made out of stripped cedar posts, then sanded and varnished. It's much prettier than the picture.

Unfortunately, Wilbur died. We are not sure if it was the upper respiratory infection he got from playing in the sprinkler, or if he was mislabeled as a Heritage Bronze when he was really a Broad Breasted Bronze. The BBBs have a short life expectancy of under a year.
To make sure this doesn't happen again, we are attempting to incubate true Heritage Bronze eggs. We miss Wilbur so much that is our hope to hatch out another turkey similar to him in personality. He was so laid back. He didn't ever attack anyone or peck at anyone. He just hung out with us in the yard.
Turkeys can live for many years, so we hope our investment in this clutch of eggs turns out to be a good one!

Sorry, he was alive when the video was made.
It's not a problem. My neighbor is still very upset about her horse, so it was kind of cool to see them in the video. Our eggs are still in the incubator, so hopefully we will hatch another cool turkey. It took me months to train Wilbur, but it can be done again.
