I debated on posting this photo. He told me his name, which I forgot, but his nick name is “slaughter”. He just finished 15 years without parole for involuntary manslaughter. My first and last thoughts are with the victim.
This photo was taken after the diverse works function. I was going back to my car through the park across from le carafe. I stopped to take pictures. Perhaps not wise. He struck up a conversation. Sang a rap song he wrote for his son while in prison. Volunteered for the photo. I actually declined further photos at one point.
The last thing he said to me? It was “don't forget your lens.”
Interesting night. I pray for the victim so many years ago. And that slaughter makes good.

Je crois n'avoir jamais perçu autant de compassion et de transparence dans la parole d'un enseignant. Comme si son ego n'existait plus...

Market Square Park
"Market Square Park: Bounded by Travis, Milam, Preston and Congress, Market Square is the geographic heart of downtown and the site of the city’s original commercial center. Market Square Park was the site of City Hall from 1841 through 1939. On Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the park hosts Market Square Market, an open-air shopping venue recreating the air of the street market it hosted until the 1920s." Source: www.houstondowntown.com/Home/Lifestyle/WhatToDo/Parks/ It should also be noted that it was in this park, a while ago, that I took Slaughter's photo in a random encounter.

John Prendergast on Darfur
Ending Genocide in Darfur and Beyond - March 5, 2007. A presentation of the Houston World Affairs Council. From the HWAC site the following is a quote with links added by me. ----------------------------------------------- Since February 2003, the Darfur region in western Sudan has been the site of one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. The Janjaweed militias have killed an estimated 300,000 civilians and have displaced more than a million others. Reports of mass rapes and the destruction of villages have brought criticism from world leaders and prompted visits from Colin Powell and Kofi Annan. The killing continues and last September, President Bush had declared the slaughter in Darfur to be “genocide.” What can be done to end the conflict, enforce a cease fire, and bring the millions of refugees back safely to their abandoned villages? (more) ----------------------------------------------- Prendergast's book on this topic is Not on Our Watch: The Mission to End Genocide in Darfur and Beyond.

Houston AIR Rally
Friends photos from the Houston 2007 Accessibility Internet Rally. Our teams did well, but alas we could not quite reach the level of Pop Labs team 1 and Idea Integration - so congratulations to them! The rest of the photos from AIR 2007 from my camera are in the AIR Houston Pool and posted to the Schipulites account.

critter art car
I recall shooting this one at the Art Car Parade, but in no way did he look this menacing. Solitary, just past the outside patio, laying in wait. Taken at the Sullivan Group Event Planning Open House 2007. Note: Sullivan is a client.

orange show 2007 gala. So this is pretty much the hottest my flickr photo stream will EVAR be. Last of the series. It was fun. To get the full effect you should listen to Slavic Soul Party while viewing this series. And I should mention the full Orange Show 2007 Gala photo set is up as well.
